Labradorite is a calcium-enriched feldspar mineral that can display an iridescent optical effect known as labradorescence, A term coined by Ove Balthasar Bøggild, who defined it as the peculiar reflection of the light from submicroscopic planes oriented in one direction. This particular example, from Labrador, Canada, displays a bright blue sheen that travels from side to side as the pendant moves. Pendant measures 3.5cm by 2.5cm. Labradorite is often called the “stone of transformation” and, metaphysically, is believed to enhance intuition, spiritual connection, and psychic abilities.
